Student Advisory Program
GOALS FOR ADVISORY PROGRAM
 
Through the development of positive relationships, the advisory program will:
 
1. PREPARE STUDENTS FOR POST-SECONDARY SUCCESS
 
     • Develop goals and plans for high school and beyond
     • Career/ College awareness and preparation
     • Life Skills( finances, adulthood, law)  
 
2. ASSIST IN PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENTS
 
     • Recognizing personality types
     • Social Skills
     • Character Growth; Ethics, Integrity
     • Community awareness and contribution
 
3. BUILD SKILLS THAT WILL LEAD TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS
 
     • Identifying personality types
     • Metacognition/critical thinking
     • Study skills
 
4. IMPROVE SCHOOL CULTURE
 
     • Promote student voice and leadership
     • Promote school spirit and pride
     • Develop a culture of mentorship
 

ROLES OF ADVISORS
 
Advisors will be responsible to:
 
1. IMPLEMENT THE ADVISORY CURRICULUM
 
     • Facilitate group discussion
     • Create an atmosphere of trust while keeping expectations for participation high.
     • Provide time and space to keep reflective work. Keep personal information
        secure as long as the advisee is enrolled in your advisory group.
 
2.COMMUNICATE REGULARLY
 
     • Meet individually with each advisee within the advisory period at least once per
       semester
     • Communicate with advisee’s parents at least once per semester.
 
3.SUPPORT ACADEMIC AND PERONAL NEEDS
 
     • Review advisees’ previous academic and guidance records at least once per
       semester.
     • Refer advisees to counselors and/or principal for major academic, counseling, and
       guidance concerns.
     • Support advisees’ annual course selections during spring.
