Hello! My name is Dr. Cara Vorhies Cleek. I grew up attending schools in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. After high school, I attended Cal State Long Beach for my undergraduate degree, teaching credential, and M.A. in Reading. Then, I attended Cal State Fullerton and completed my educational journey in 2015 with an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. My publications include: "Leadership 2.0: The Impact of Technology on Leadership Development" (2017) in New Directions for Student Leadership, "Educators' Orientations to Teaching and Learning Within Changing Educational Paradigms: A Mixed Methods Study" (2015), and "Independent Reading Tool: Using Book Conversation Logs to Motivate Adolescent Readers" in California Reader (2012).
I have taught at Norwalk High School since 2006 and have taught Language Arts 9-12 and ERWC. I also taught Reading Development at Long Beach City College from 2015-2017. My experience teaching at the college level has helped me better serve my high school students and prepare them for the next step in their life. One of my favorite things to do is read, which you will find evidence of in all of my classes!
The majority of my communication to students and guardians takes place through Schoology, and guardians are welcome to ask for course add codes. Please use this link to access Schoology: https://app.schoology.com/home.
